Long-term partner universities

In 2019, Michael O. Hengartner, then President of the University of Zurich, and Sabine Kunst, President of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, signed a strategic partnership agreement to underline the long-standing collaboration between the two universities and the significance of the link between Berlin and Zurich.

Close exchange at institutional and student level

Since 2006, the University of Zurich has enjoyed an institutionalized exchange with the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin and the University of Vienna. The meetings take a strategic focus and center around topics of university management, benchmarking and institutional learning. In addition, there has been very active student exchange between the University of Zurich and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin for many years.

About Humboldt-Universität

The Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin was founded in 1809 by King Frederick William III of Prussia as the University of Berlin. The largest and oldest university in Berlin has been named since 1949 after the Prussian scientists Wilhelm and Alexander von Humboldt.

Joining Forces with Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin

Berlin’s university hospital Charité joined the party in June 2020. This new agreement means increased cooperation in the field of medicine. Charité is the faculty of medicine of both Freie and Humboldt universities in Berlin.
