The Republic of Poland, represented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA, offers scholarships within the framework of the Zawacka NAWA Programme. The Zawacka NAWA Programme is an exchange program for students and scientists as part of bilateral cooperation. The aim of the Programme is to deepen international academic cooperation on the basis of international agreements concluded between Poland and the partner countries, including Switzerland.
Scholarship Offer for Switzerland
For the academic year 2025/2026, the Republic of Poland offers 36 scholarship months to Swiss students, doctoral students, academic teachers and research staff for part-time studies or scientific and research internships. The scholarships are granted for several months for scientific and research stays or for a minimum of one semester for studies.
Type of Possible Scholarship Stays
Visits are eligible under the Programme for the following purposes:
- completing part-time studies at universities under the supervision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education;
- research stay: e.g. scientific internships, study visits, obtaining materials for scientific work, conducting teaching classes at the hosting center, other forms of scientific or academic activity related to the implementation of studies, doctoral thesis or scientific work.
The Programme is open to students, doctoral students and employees of universities and research institutes in all fields of science.
Eligible Applicants
The following individuals are eligible to apply for participation in the Programme:
- undergraduate and graduate students
- persons with the status of a doctoral student in accordance with the principles of the higher education and science system of their country;
- scientists and academic teachers conducting research or teaching in a country participating in the Programme, who are not employed by a Polish institution of the higher education and science system.

- Students with dual citizenship (Poland/CH) are not eligible for Polish government scholarships, even if they have been living and studying in Switzerland.
- University graduates who would like to obtain a PhD degree at a Polish doctoral school are NOT eligible to apply for a Polish government scholarship since every doctoral school provides a doctoral scholarship funded by the Polish government. However, a research stay at a Polish university within the framework of a PhD in Switzerland is possible.
- Students who have already started their bachelor's, master's, or uniform master's programme in Poland can also apply for a scholarship from the Polish government (provided they are not employed by the Polish host university).

Remarks
The Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange NAWA does not participate in the recruitment of applicants for university studies or research stays. Applicants take part in the recruitment process at a selected university individually and independently of their scholarship application. Applicants must contact the Polish host universities themselves to confirm the possibility of part-time studies or research stays. The final decision on the acceptance of the applicant is made by the host university.
The host university decides whether a scholarship can be extended. We therefore recommend that scholarship holders who wish to extend their scholarship should contact their host university at an early stage to find out whether an extension is possible. In the positive case, the application for extension can be submitted to swissuniversities.
