UZH Appointed as Leading House Asia Pacific
The University of Zurich (UZH) has been designated as the Leading House Asia Pacific for 2025–2028 by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI). In this role, UZH will foster collaboration in research, education, and innovation between Switzerland and 15 countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

As a Leading House, UZH will facilitate new opportunities for Swiss researchers to engage with academic and industry partners across the region. “UZH has a strong track record in institutional and individual collaboration with Asia-Pacific institutions,” says President Michael Schaepman. “We look forward to expanding our engagement to further strengthen Swiss research, education, and innovation.”
Expansion to Australia and New Zealand
A key enhancement of the new mandate is the inclusion of Australia and New Zealand, two countries with strong research and innovation ecosystems. “We are particularly pleased about this extension,” says Katja Durkin, Head of Global Affairs at UZH. “Australia is one of Switzerland’s top global research partners, and we are confident that this expansion will bring valuable opportunities for Swiss stakeholders."
The Role of Leading Houses
The Leading House model, introduced by the Swiss government in 2008, aims to enhance scientific cooperation with non-European partner countries. Selected Swiss higher education institutions receive a mandate from SERI to establish funding instruments for research collaboration and pilot projects.
